FACING RACE IN 2009

FACING RACE in 2009
  • The recent 2007-2008 Illinois Legislative Report-Card on Racial Equity, by Applied Research Center sheds some light on the current dilemma of the racial divide that exists across this "Land of Lincoln". "This report reviews 56 bills introduced in the 95th General Assembly that, if signed into law by the Governor, would have the most direct positive and negative impacts on communities of color." (P4, Facing Race, 2007-2008 Legislative Report Card on Racial Equity).
  • The most interesting item found in this report are the Governor vetoes 1500 projects totaling $500 million, many vital programs mischaracterized as "pork." As the saying goes one person's pork is another person's livelihood.
  • This is a must read for all those who plan on attending the upcoming Sixth Annual Illinois Legislative Latino Caucus Foundation Conference; "La Presencia Latina: Influencing Change". Thursday, December 4, 2008 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, Rosemont, IL. www.illcf.org
